Upright meaning
A bond, appetite, or fear has more power than it admits. Naming it begins the release.
Reversed meaning
The chain is loosening. A pattern can be broken if the easy bargain is refused.
Symbolism
- chain — Attachment that may be looser than believed.
- throne — Power enthroned by fear or appetite.
- fire — Heat of desire and consequence.
- crown — A false ruler made from an unnamed need.
Lore
The Devil is the adversary as mirror, the horned keeper of appetites exiled from polite speech and therefore made powerful.
In play, this can mark cursed bargains, addictive loops, tempting shortcuts, debts, social traps, or clues hidden in what everyone avoids naming.
