Minor Arcana

Ten of Wands

A card of burdened completion: the last hard carry before a threshold, and the cost of confusing responsibility with aloneness.

  • burden
  • responsibility
  • overload
  • completion
  • carried fire

Upright meaning

The fire has become heavy. The Ten of Wands asks what must be carried to completion and what must be put down before it crushes the bearer.

Reversed meaning

The load may finally be released, delegated, or refused. Beware dropping everything only because no one helped you sort the weight.

Symbolism

  • staff — Support multiplied into burden.
  • wand — Many fires demanding one body.
  • mountain — The final distance made harder by weight.
  • threshold — Completion is close, but not yet free.

Lore

The Ten of Wands is the hero carrying every torch from the abandoned shrine, forgetting that fire meant to light a city cannot be held in one pair of arms.

In play, it appears near deadlines, overfull inventories, exhausted protectors, and moments where the player must finish while renegotiating the cost of finishing.
