Upright meaning
The resource is protected, but the hand is tight. The Four of Pentacles asks whether security is becoming control, and whether holding on is preserving life or freezing it.
Reversed meaning
The grip loosens, willingly or otherwise. Release, generosity, loss, or redistribution can change the structure around the stored resource.
Symbolism

Lore
The Four of Pentacles sits at the gate of the storehouse, a coin at crown, heart, and feet. The city behind is safe, but the road outside grows quiet.
In play, it can mark locked resources, a guarded merchant, hidden savings, a blocked inheritance, or the choice to spend a precious item rather than keep it forever.
