Upright meaning
The cage is real, but not the whole truth. The Eight of Swords shows restriction, fear, and the painful way a narrowed mind can make every exit look forbidden.
Reversed meaning
A binding loosens when one assumption is questioned. The player may discover movement, allyship, or a small opening that fear had hidden.
Symbolism

Lore
The Eight of Swords stands in wet ground within a ring of blades, blindfolded near a fortress that is not as closed as it first appears. Thought has built a weather system around fear.
In play, it can mark an NPC trapped by assumptions, a puzzle with a simple overlooked exit, social shame, or a player choice that appears unavailable until wording changes.
